Smart Fit Method started with a father, a son, and a diagnosis.

Rob Darnbrough spent his life on the red line. A competitive cyclist, serial entrepreneur, and believer that more was always better. For decades, he trained six to eight hours a day, pushing his body to its limit.

It made him exceptionally fit. It also nearly killed him.

At 49, a scan revealed a thoracic aortic aneurysm. Two cardiologists gave him the same orders: no hills, don't lift anything heavier than 30 pounds. This diagnosis forced four months of inactivity that cost him 15 pounds of muscle and pushed his biological age from 49 to 54.

In just four months, he had lost five years of physiological capacity.

Rob wasn’t ready to live less of life. So he and Connor started asking a different question:

What would it actually take to build a plan that wasn’t just about fitness, but about long-term health too? A holistic approach where the two work together to build more capacity, more vitality, and ultimately, more years worth living.

The first breakthrough came from an unlikely place: a machine originally developed by NASA to counter the muscle loss astronauts experience in space. Rob started training on it for just 20 minutes, three times a week. Three months later, his VO₂ max matched that of an elite 45-year-old.

If decades of conventional training couldn’t give Rob back what he’d lost, how could 20 minutes?

This discovery challenged what they thought they knew about health and fitness, and raised an even bigger question:

What if this wasn’t just possible for Rob? What if it could change what was possible for anyone?

The answers they found became the foundation for Smart Fit Method.

They tested protocols, technology, recovery, and every variable they could measure, refining the approach until they could consistently create meaningful adaptation without unnecessary wear and tear.

But the machines were never the point. They were the tools. The real innovation was building a system in one place: a way to see the whole picture, replace generic programs with real data, and turn that data into a clear, individualized path forward.

Smart Fit Method was founded in 2020, and the first studio opened a year later.

Every member still starts the way Rob did: with a comprehensive assessment measuring strength, body composition, cardiovascular capacity, and biological age. Then we retest, so progress is something you can see, measure, and understand.

Because we believe you shouldn’t have to spend your life figuring out how to take care of your body. You should have a clear, intelligent plan built for you, one that actually gives you more time back and helps you stay strong, healthy, and capable for now and the years to come.

That’s why we built Smart Fit Method: to extend your years of health and expand your capacity to live them fully.

Validated by the science

The approach has held up outside the studio. In 2026, Arizona State University selected Smart Fit Method as the primary exercise and recovery program for its XPRIZE Healthspan study. The team has since advanced to the 2027 XPRIZE Healthspan Finals — one of the top 20 in the world out of more than 1,500 that entered. The press caught on too, from FOX to Forbes.
